Too often, I see people spend months building a product, writing a book or developing a program before they’ve worked directly with enough people to understand what those people actually need.
Then they try to sell it and discover that buyers don’t want what they built.
That can cost a great deal of time, money and effort.
Twenty years inside a company can give you valuable expertise. But working independently with your own clients teaches you something additional. You have to earn their trust, explain the value, ask for payment, set expectations and take responsibility for delivery.
You also see what happens when your approach meets someone else’s circumstances, without your employer’s team, systems or reputation behind it.
If your company has sold to and delivered for clients, and you worked closely with them, that experience counts. You have seen the buying decisions, the scope conversations and the results firsthand. This program helps you turn what you know into assets you own personally, such as a paid newsletter, a book, a podcast or a program.
If you haven't done that yet, start by selling and delivering your services. Work with enough clients, over enough time, to understand the problems deeply.
Some issues will belong to one particular client. Others will appear repeatedly. As you work, you’ll learn to tell the difference.
Those repeated patterns are the foundation for your IP: your point of view, informed by what you’ve actually seen and helped people do.
Intellectual property is more than a course or a named framework.
In this program, we use “IP” to describe the original content, methods and tools you create and the business assets you build around them.
For example, a founder who already explains the market to clients every week could turn that thinking into a paid newsletter in their own name.
Depending on your experience and goals, your project could be:
The aim is to develop original writing, recordings, tools and supporting materials you can build a business around. We work from your own experience and material you have permission to use.
The platforms used to distribute them are a separate consideration. A social account, podcast platform or newsletter service can change its rules or restrict access.
We’ll consider how your project connects to assets you can retain and manage, including your original files, website and permission-based audience relationships.
Building IP can create more leverage. It does not automatically create passive income; publishing, marketing, support and improvement still require work.
You explain certain things repeatedly.
Clients struggle with similar decisions. You use an approach that helps them move forward. Perhaps you’ve already created exercises, templates or tools that make the work easier.
Now you want to capture those insights and make them useful beyond each individual engagement.
Inside Build Your IP, we examine your actual client experience, develop your point of view and choose a format that fits the people you want to reach.
The goal is to build something useful enough to earn attention, trust and payment.
If you run a company or work under an agreement, decide early whether this asset belongs to you personally or to the business, and check any agreements that apply.
• Starting your first project: find the pattern in your client work and build a first version.
• Already built something that isn't working: diagnose why, reposition it and test it again with the right buyers.
Week 1: Find the patterns. Start with the work clients paid you to do.
Review the problems clients paid you to solve, what you did and what changed.
Separate recurring needs from individual circumstances. Identify the problem and audience your project will serve, along with the evidence you have and the questions still unanswered.
Week 2: Shape your approach. Turn the pattern into a first sample.
Depending on the project, this could include a method, book outline, newsletter concept, podcast premise, signature talk or structured program.
Develop a useful first piece of original material that demonstrates the approach.
Week 3: Decide how it earns. Choose how it fits your business and how it pays.
What will people pay for? Who pays? What is included? What will it cost you to create, maintain and deliver?
A book, newsletter or podcast may generate revenue directly, support other offers or do both. We’ll make that role explicit.
Week 4: Test it with buyers. Put your first version in front of the right people.
A focused test with relevant buyers, readers, listeners or partners, with responses and unanswered questions documented.
Client experience gives you a foundation. The new format and commercial offer still need testing.
The sprint helps you develop and test the first version. It doesn't promise a finished book, an established podcast, a large audience or specific revenue within 30 days.
The sprint gets your first version out. The real build takes months.
A book, a newsletter or a program grows over a year, not four weeks. Members of the FU Money Plan Community keep building with live coaching, accountability and people at the same stage, all year.
• You've delivered relevant work to multiple paying clients over time, on your own or through your company.
• You run a company that serves clients, and you want to build assets you own personally.
• You can explain the recurring problems you see and the changes your work helps create.
• You want to develop original material from that experience, or fix something you've already built that isn't working.
• You have one project you're ready to focus on.
• You're willing to create, ask for feedback and do the work between calls.
Readiness comes from the depth and relevance of your client work, not from how many years you've been at it.
You can build alongside a job, and you don't need a large audience. We review your experience and proposed project before enrollment.
This is a live 30-day sprint with set start and finish dates.
You work on your own project throughout, supported by four live group working sessions, replays, practical exercises, personalized feedback and community chat.
This is a group program. You’ll work on your own project and receive guidance and feedback within the group format. Private one-on-one sessions are not included. If you need more in-depth support, we can discuss a separate paid engagement, subject to availability.
Places are limited so participants receive meaningful attention. We review inquiries to make sure your experience, project and needs fit the sprint.
I'm Krista Mollion, founder of FU Money Plan and a former 6x CMO. I co-owned, grew and exited an eight-figure agency.
Over nine years working for myself, I've tested 12 income streams and made six pivots. I've built services, products, courses and communities, and learned how much the format changes what you earn and how you spend your week.
We'll look at what your client work has taught you, what your audience needs and how to develop something that makes sense for your business and your life.
The aim is to build a body of work and assets that give you more options over time.
Do I need paying clients already?
Yes. You need to have worked directly with multiple paying clients, on your own or as a founder or leader close to your company's clients, and have enough delivery experience to understand the recurring problem you want to build around.
If you need help reaching that stage, start with Your Thriving Services Business.
I have a long corporate career. Isn't that enough?
Your professional experience is valuable, and we'll use it. For this program, you also need experience selling and delivering relevant work to clients, on your own or as a founder or leader who worked directly with your company's clients.
How many clients do I need?
As a guide, at least three clients you've delivered similar work for. That's usually enough to tell a recurring pattern apart from one person's circumstances. We also look at the depth and duration of your work and the results you can explain. Signed clients count once you've delivered the work for them.
I run a company. Do I qualify?
Yes, if you've worked closely with your company's clients and understand the problems they bring to you. Many founders want something they own outside the business, such as a paid newsletter, a book or an advisory program. We'll choose one project, define who it's for and plan how it earns.
I've already built something, and it isn't working. Is this for me?
Yes. Maybe it's a newsletter that stalled, a course nobody bought or a book draft that's been sitting for a year. We'll work out why, reposition it around the problem your clients actually pay to solve, and test it again with the right people.
Can I build a newsletter, podcast, book or speaking platform?
Yes. These are all possible projects. We'll assess the audience, point of view, original material and commercial purpose, then choose a realistic first version to develop during the sprint.
Do I have to build a course?
No. Your project might be a newsletter, podcast, book, signature talk, toolkit, workshop, program or another suitable format.
Does client experience mean the new offer is already validated?
It gives you evidence about the problem and your approach. The new format, price and buying experience still need testing, and that's what Week 4 is for.
Does this include legal protection for my IP?
The program focuses on developing original material and its commercial use. Legal registration, ownership agreements and legal advice are outside its scope.
What comes after Build Your IP?
The sprint gets the first version of your project out and tested. From there, two paths:
• Keep building with support. A book, newsletter or program takes months to grow. Members of the FU Money Plan Community keep working on it with live coaching, accountability and people at the same stage, all year. Apply to join here.
• Bring it to more buyers. Once your project has sold and been delivered, Market, Launch & Sell helps you reach more buyers.
